Stephanie and Paulo

symbols, traditions, rituals…little stitches of meaning woven through the day. Family heirlooms passed down through generations connect us to the past; bridge the future. A mother’s locket placed close to the heart holds the beloved near. Remember, revere. Grandmother’s necklace, ankle length follows step by step- guiding- to some metaphoric to others perceptible.

Other traditions have roots stretching back so far the meanings are long forgotten by most. Garters have been tossed in the wedding ritual for a half a millennia now. Time flows, meanings erode, morph. Still little kernels of meaning remain the same. The garter is imbued with the good luck of the bride. He who catches it is thought to be the next to marry. Stephanie and Paulo chose to take tradition and re-spin it {add personality, add humour}. Portuguese flags, full of  luck, tossed to a rowdy crowd of soccer fans!

Jessica and Pat – part I

The sun rounds the corner,  shadows are cast and angle into the scene.  Slow pan across gate -  as the iron bars and their shadows play against one another.Linger on Jess and Pat framed in the brilliant sunlight, dissolve.  Zoom out, focus on bouquet, recompose.Zoom in tight on faces- blur- focus on feeling…fade out….

WPJA Q1:2010 Winning image

I am happy to say that one of our images from Amy and Rob’s wedding won thirteenth place in the WPJA Q1-2010 contest in the Creative Portrait category. The category sought portraits with extra emphasis on creativity.  The other winning images were of such a high calibre – that it is flattering to be among them.
