Mike & Angie’s wedding and reception at Verses restaurant

Light streams through the windows and creates halos around the congregation.  The Bride and Groom join hands.  Behind them , light passes through the stained glass making the jewel tones glow and the figures pulsate with life.  It casts a warm glow on the couple.  Light from another direction sculpts the profile of the Bride’s face and illuminates the profound emotion the congregation is witnessing.

Becky and Mat

This is the story of the thirty minutes leading up to the wedding of Becky and Mat.

Wedding photography by Ralph and Angie

Art Direction by Ralph

The story wrote itself

Screenplay by Angie

On Location at Greystone Golf Club in Milton

Opening Scene: From a far distance,  dark clouds loom overhead and move quickly across the sky.  Movement slows as clouds get closer to the white house.  Frame as clouds hang in suspension over the house.

Pan across to the Mother of the Bride, at the front door of the house.  She strikes a pose in communication with Mother Nature.

Becky and her sister, Amy move towards the door.  As the zoom gets tighter the viewer can see the anticipation and worry palpably written on their faces.  Thunder cracks, rumbles echo loudly through the sky.

Cut to  sky as it opens up, and large raindrops start pelting everything unsheltered.  Flowers bob up and down against the weight of the drops.

Camera pulls back to reveal a crowd of people scrambling for cover and streaming into the white house.  Speed up action, until everyone is in.  Door slams.  Dissolve.  Fade in to the crowd inside the house.  Crane down on people packed tightly.  The sounds of conversation gets progressively louder and overlapped, as the zoom on the crowd gets tighter.

Cut to frame of outside, shot from inside the house. People are packed together under the only tent. Water droplets roll of the slope of the tent and drip down.

Cut to the dry interior of the house again.  Becky and Amy are passing time by practicing the first dance together.  Move in closer as they laugh, zoom in on the carefree look on Becky’s face.  Camera pulls back and pans, as they glide easily throughout the room.

Light filters into the dark room through the closed curtains, Becky and Amy open the curtains and light pours in.  Cut to view of sun parting through the clouds.

Becky swings the doors to the room wide open, the show will go on!

Cut to front door of white house.  The door swings open and crowds quickly spill out of the white house into the lush wide open greens.

And the show went on…

Stephanie and Paulo

symbols, traditions, rituals…little stitches of meaning woven through the day. Family heirlooms passed down through generations connect us to the past; bridge the future. A mother’s locket placed close to the heart holds the beloved near. Remember, revere. Grandmother’s necklace, ankle length follows step by step- guiding- to some metaphoric to others perceptible.

Other traditions have roots stretching back so far the meanings are long forgotten by most. Garters have been tossed in the wedding ritual for a half a millennia now. Time flows, meanings erode, morph. Still little kernels of meaning remain the same. The garter is imbued with the good luck of the bride. He who catches it is thought to be the next to marry. Stephanie and Paulo chose to take tradition and re-spin it {add personality, add humour}. Portuguese flags, full of  luck, tossed to a rowdy crowd of soccer fans!
